In een pilot trial testen Amerikaanse neurologen of de stof mycophenolate mofetil, die een immuunmodulerend effect heeft, zinvol zou kunnen zijn bij de behandeling avn patienten met CIDP.
Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) wordt momenteel steeds meer gezien als een immuunmodulator bij neuromusculaire aandoeningen, volgens de auteurs. De stof wordt ook ingezet bij transplantaties. [1] In een pilot studie met 8 patienten bekeek men de behandeling met MMF in een dosis van 2 gram per dag gedurende meer dan een jaar op de handicap. De resultaten waren: Six of these eight patients were either able to stop concomitant medications (corticosteroid, intravenous immunoglobulin) or reduce their doses and frequency by >/=50%. En de auteurs concludeerden: Our pilot data suggest that MMF appears to be an effective therapy for patients with naive or refractory CIDP, and further controlled studies are warranted for their confirmation.
