Deze company meent in haar rapport dat als er een behandeling voor diabetische neuropathie zou komen, die de aandoening in zijn kern zou kunnen behandelen, er dan een zeer snelle en sterke marktgroei zou zijn voor die stof (hehe...) Ze stellen dat:

a drug that has disease-modifying potential would earn 40 percent patient share in the U.S., according to surveyed U.S. neurologists. Similarly, in Europe, such a drug would earn a comparable patient share of 43 percent, according to surveyed European neurologists.

Dat komt omdat de recente en vroeger ontwikkelde stoffen alleen maar de symptomen doen verminderen, en omdat er alleen op pijn gefocussed wordt. De neuropathie zelf, dat is geen target. 

"Interviewed experts told us that there is a great need for disease-modifying agents that can slow or reverse the progression of diabetic neuropathy. They note that currently available drugs focus on alleviating the painful symptoms and that there are no medications to treat the nonpainful symptoms of the disease,"

Tja, voor insiders wel allemaal open deuren hier. 

De organisatie meent dat CNSBio's CNSB-001 de prijs gaat winnen rond 2012-2013... Maar ja, volgens ons is die stof nou ook niet zo bijzonder, het is een conbinatie van een kaliumkanaal opener, de stof flupirtine ^[1][2] samen met een opiaat.

Op de website van CNSBIO staat over deze vaste combinatie het volgende:

CNSBio has completed two proof-of-concept clinical trials involving flupirtine when used as an adjunct to current opioid treatment in two different neuropathic pain indications

an open-label Phase Ib/IIA clinical trial of flupirtine (CNB015) in cancer patients with significant neuropathic pain

a placebo-controlled Phase IIa clinical trial of CNSB015 in HIV patients with painful peripheral neuropathy

Both trials provide strong, proof-of-concept evidence for the efficacy, tolerability and safety of the combination therapy technology.

CNSB001 is a fixed dose combination (FDC) product comprised of flupirtine and an opioid.

Flupirtine overigens is een al vrij oude stof. ^{[3] [4][5]} Een kwart eeuw of zo al in de kliniek onderzocht. Zo'n waanzinnige innovatie vinden we dit dus niet.
