Bicifadine bij neuropathische pijn

Bicafadine is een naam voor de experimentele stof DOV 220,075; (+/-)-1-(4-methylphenyl)-3-azabicyclo-[3.1.0]hexaan HCl. Het gaat om een niet-opiaat, eigenlijk een heel oude stof die in de vorige eeuw ook al klnisch onderzocht werd, het is een pijnstiller die werkt via een aantal neurotransmitter wegen. Momenteel wordt deze stof in de VS onderzocht voor neuropathische pijn.

De stof heeft invloed op een aantal neurotransmitters, het meest voor noradrenaline, het minst voor dopamine.^[1] Oudere studies laten zien dat de stof duidelijk analgetische eigenschappen heeft.^[2]^[3]

In de VS loopt nu de studie met als titel: To compare the efficacy of two dosages (600mg/day and 1200mg/day) of bicifadine SR with placebo for 14 weeks in reduction of chronic neuropathic patin (measured by a daily rating of pain intensity) associated with diabetic periperal neuropathy in adult outpatients.
