Flupirtine from CNSBio in neuropathic pain
Flupirtine from CNSBio is in phase I for the development in neuropathic pain. However, flupirtine is an old molecule, aminopyridine. It has been used as an analgesic in the past and is still on the market in various countries.

Flupirtine is a centrally acting, non-opioid analgesic that is currently available in a number of European countries for the treatment of pain states. The compound has unique pharmacological properties.

Flupiritine: mechanism of action and indications

Flupirtine is an indirect NDMA receptor antagonist via its mechanism of action by activating potassium channels and it is characterized as a selective neuronal potassium channel opener.

Various small-scale studies, together with extensive clinical experience, suggest that flupirtine effectively reduces chronic musculoskeletal pain, migraine and neuralgia.

It also has muscle-relaxing effects and it can be combned with morphine as flupirtine increases the antinociceptive activity of morphine.

Most common adverse effects associated with flupirtine use are drowsiness, dizziness, heartburn, dry mouth, fatigue and nausea. [1][2][3]
