ALGRX 4975 (Johns Hopkins University) is under development in neuropathic pain, in phase II.

Corgentech Inc. reported some years ago positive clinical data from a Phase 2 clinical trial showing that ALGRX 4975 statistically significant pain relief over placebo in patients with tendonitis of the elbow.

For patients treated with ALGRX 4975, a statistically significant improvement in the responder analysis was maintained eight weeks after treatment compared to placebo, and the trend for ALGRX 4975 patients to have lower pain scores was maintained from two to 12 weeks.

In 2008 news energed:

Anesiva Inc reported to develop Adlea (ALRGX-4975) and said it is an injectable preparation of capsaicin, a TRPV1 (transient receptor potential vanilloid subfamily 1) receptor agonist.

Indications for development mentioned were:

  1. pain associated with osteoarthritis,
  2. tendonitiand postsurgical conditions, as well as
  3. neuropathic pain occurring secondary to nerve injury.

In phase II clinical trials, a single injection of the compound significantly reduced pain levels in patients following total knee arthroplasty (TKA)  and reduced pain in patients with osteoarthritis (OA) or Morton's neuroma. [1]
