TENS zinvol bij diabetische neuropathische pijn

TENS is vermoedelijk zinvol bij de behandeling van neuropathische pijn door DM, maar minder zinvol bij aspecifieke pijnklachten in de rug, aldus een rapport in de VS dat eind 2009 gepubliceerd werd. Het gaat om een rapport van de belangrijke organisatie de "American Academy of Neurology" en het rapport verscheen in het tijdschrift Neurology.

According to the new TENS practice guideline -- issued by the American Academy of Neurology and published in the academy's journal Neurology -- TENS is "ineffective" for the treatment of chronic low back pain but is "probably effective" in reducing pain from diabetic neuropathy.^[1]

Op basis van een grote meta-analyse meenden de onderzoekers Dubinsky en Miyasaki dat:

"TENS should be considered for the treatment of painful diabetic neuropathy."

In ons centrum voor neuropathie zetten we TENS regelmatig in met goed resultaat voor allerlei soorten pijnlijke neuropathie.
