Magnesiumsulfaat

Magnesium zouten worden door sommige artsen aanbevolen bij door chemokuur veroorzaakte neuropathie. We citeren een modern overzicht: New evidence strongly suggests that intravenous calcium and magnesium therapy can attenuate the development of oxaliplatin-induced CIPN, without reducing treatment response. Er is sterk bewijs dat intraveneus toegediend magnesium de ontwikkeling van een door chemokuur veroorzaakte neuropathie kan verminderen.

^[1] Er zijn ook andere studies die aangeven dat magnesium de neuropathie kan verminderen. ^[2]Te weinig magnesium komt ook voor bij chemokuren en is hoog gerelateerd aan het ontstaan van neuropathie ^[3]

In diermodellen voor neuropathische pijn lijkt magnesium werkzaam te zijn. ^[4] Ook bij diabetische neuropathie wordt een positief effect gevonden. ^[5]

In Soest neigen we er momenteel toe om bij patienten met neuropathische aandoeningen in het bloed het magnesiumgehalte te bepalen en bij te weinig magnesium, magnesium voor te schrijven.

Voorts kan magnesiumsulfaat, in doseringen van 500-1000 mg ingezet worden om de pijnstillende werking van andere stoffen te potentieren, via het effect op de zogenaamde NMDA receptor. Deze receptor speelt een belangrijke rol bij de pijnverwerking op ruggeremrgsniveau.
