Efficacy painteams disappointing
pijn_echt_pijn.jpgA recent German study examined the effectiveness of painteams. This was pretty disappointing. We had thought there would be more success if patients were treated via this interdisciplinary treatment of chronic pain. Not so. Only one in five patients had clearly benefited from treatment by a painteam. 

At 6 and 12 months after the first contact with the SPC, only 20% of the patients had improved with respect to levels of pain and psychometric data.

SPC stands for specialized pain centre.  [1]

The study was conducted in 6 German centers.  Patients who had chronic complaints, which were operated upon and suffering from low social support responded less to interventions. Strangely enough, there are almost no articles about how efficient painteams treat painful neuropaty. This is the only article we could find ....
